Pass a clean budget that helps women, children & families
In September, Congress will vote on a budget to fund the federal government for the next fiscal year (beginning October 1). The current House budget proposal is dangerous to women, children, and families — it diverts funds from human needs programs like Medicaid and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, and adds it to Department of Defense programs to the tune of $621.5 billion. This is $72 billion more than is allowed by current law. Further, there is a threat that ideological amendments (policy riders or “poison pills”) will be attached to this must-pass legislation. Congress should instead pass a clean budget that allows for economic opportunity and helps those most vulnerable in our nation.
